BCG updates virtual GMDSS simulator

BCG’s new Inmarsat-C virtual terminal BCG’s new Inmarsat-C virtual terminal

Buffalo Computer Graphics (BCG) has upgraded its Virtual Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (VGMDSS) simulation software to add a new Inmarsat-C and Radio Telex terminal simulation.

{mprestriction ids="1,2"}The two updated devices are modelled after SAILOR equipment from Cobham SATCOM, the 6110 Mini-C Inmarsat terminal and the 6300 MF/HF Radio Telex, to reflect the actual current text terminals found in SAILOR GMDSS consoles.

All messaging through the Inmarsat-C terminal, including Enhanced Group Call (EGC) messages, is sent to participants in the simulation via the network messaging software running on each user’s computer. To support operational and training objectives, the virtual Inmarsat-C terminal provides a power button, distress button, event logs, printing capability, and other features found on the actual device.

In support of the MF/HF Radio Telex capability, the VGMDSS software also now offers a SAILOR Series 6000 terminal emulation package for each student position. Text messaging is transmitted and received through the BCG simulation software running in the background.

Other simulated capabilities include the ability to scan ITU channels for applicable traffic between students or with the instructor, while the virtual Radio Telex terminal offers built-in MF/HF radio controls, a distress feature, event logs and printer support.{/mprestriction}
